About Travel to Hat Yai
Hat Yai is the largest city in Southern Thailand and a transport hub for onward travel in Thailand by bus, train or plane. Hat Yai is also a city with great shopping opportunities, particularly for those wanting to buy Thai products, plentiful restaurants, and a lot of reasonably priced hotels. Lots of visitors from Malaysia and Singapore come to Hat Yai for a short break as consequence.
Hat Yai City
The busiest part of Hat Yai is the area to the east of the main train station. This is where most leisure visitors choose to stay in Hat Yai. The very busiest street in Hat Yai is the section of the Sanaeha Nusorn Road by the Lee Gardens Plaza Hotel.
The Kim Yong Market is located near the railway station as well. Kim Yong Market is a massive day time market where everything from dried foods to electronics is on sale. Khlong Hae Floating Market, however, is 6 km by road from Hat Yai Junction Railway Station. This floating market opens on the evenings at the weekend and it’s more a place for eating and drinking rather than bargain hunting.

Songkhla
Rather than stay in Hat Yai City itself, some visitors prefer to make the 30 km journey to the seaside town of Songkhla. Songkhla is a popular holiday destination. As well as a beach, Songkhla has an Old Town area which is becoming a popualr tourist attraction in its own right.
Koh Lipe
Hat Yai is also the connection point for transport services to the idyllic island of Koh Lipe. During the tourist high season joint minivan and speedboat services from Hat Yai to Koh Lipe depart several times day from Hat Yai Bus Station, Hat Yai Junction Railway Station and Hat Yai Airport.
Travel to Bangkok
Thailand’s Southern Railway Line runs from Hat Yai to Bangkok. Sleeper berths are relatively inexpensive on trains in Thailand allowing for a fairly comfortable overnight journey.
