About Travel to Kuala Terengganu
Kuala Terengganu is the state capital of Terengganu. It has over 250,000 premanent residents making it by far the largest settlement in the state, and this is where the Sultan of Terengganu has his palace.
Kuala Terengganu has a very long history. The city is mentioned in Chinese records from the Sui Dynasty (581–618 AD). Unfortunately, however, much of old city was destroyed in 1882, including the city’s Green Palace.
Tourism in Kuala Terengganu
Kuala Terengganu receives very few foreign visitors except for those transitting through the city on route to Redang Island. The city has no well known points of interest for tourists. It does though have a museum (Terengganu State Museum), an island with a traditional fishing community and some old buildings (Pulau Duyong), and interesting China Town area, and an attractive white mosque in a lake (Masjid Terapung).

If you do plan to go to Redang Island make sure you book your accommodation in advance. There are no budget hotel options on Redang Island except for some pre-pitcehd tents, which aren’t particularly cheap or comfortable. Redang island has several luxurious resorts located beachside. Guests at these resorts can go snorkelling from the beach in front of their room and see an amazing array of marine life. There are reefs not far from the shoreline which attracts all kinds of fish, as well as turtles and the occassional reef shark.
