The closest border crossing in to Thailand is at Rantau Panjang, 42 km by road to the east of Kota Bharu. The cheapest way to travel by public transport to the border at Ratau Panjang is to take bus 29 from the Stesen Bas in Kota Bharu town centre. By bus the journey takes around 8 minutes and cost RM5 per person. Services on bus 29 depart every 30 minutes from 05.45.
A faster way to travel from Kota Bharu to the border at Rantau Panjang is to take a taxi. The standard fare from Kota Bharu to Rantau Panjang is RM60 for the whole taxi, which means that if you can find some other people to share with you then you can reduce the cost of the journey. The journey by taxi to the border takes around 40 minutes.
