About Travel to Redang Island
Redang Island, known locally as Pulau Redang, is the largest of a cluster 9 islands. Most of the other 9 island are tiny in comparison to Redang Island, which itself is only 7 km long by 6 km at its widest point. Redand Island is 27 km the south east of the Perhentian Islands. Redang Island is similar to the Perhentian Islands, however, it tends to attracts a different type of visitor in part because of the absence of any budget accommodation on Redang Island. The cheapest place to stay on Redang Island is a campsite with permanently erected tents with beds inside that cost at least 80 MYR a night. The typical cost of a room per night is 200 MYR or more and the restaurants tend to be fairly expensive as well, with a limited number of independent restaurants, shops and bars on the island where visitors might find better value for money. Redang Island also has very little in the way of public transport so, unless you are prepared to walk through the jungle or hire a taxi boat, you will be pretty much confined to your resort and the beach where it is located for the duration of your stay.

What attracts visitors to Redang Island, despite the downsides, are the fantastic beaches and clear waters teaming with aquatic life. There are reefs a short distance off a number of the beaches in Redang Island and its one of the few places in the world where you can spot lots of fish, as well as having a fairly good chance of seeing a reef shark or a turtle, by going snorkelling off the beach in front of your bungalow. The relatively high price for the accommodation represents value for money in this respect. One of the best places to go snorkelling on Redang Island is Pasir Panjang, which means Long Beach. Pasir Panjang is one of the most popular destinations on the island as a consequence and it has plenty of beach front resorts.
