About Travel to Genting Highlands
Genting Highlands is Malaysia’s very own minature version of Las Vegas, located at the top of 1,800 metre tall hill where the weather is much cooler than it is in Kuala Lumpur and on a clear day the view of the surrounding countryside are excellent. Genting Highlands, established in 1971, is the only place in Malaysia where casinos can operate legally. There are two casinos, both large and plush. The 9 hotels in Genting Highlands are also large and fairly luxurious, as are many of the over 100 food outlets in the complex.
Genting Highlands is a popular as a short break destination for Malaysian and Singaporean families because of the wide range of family friendly activities available alongside the gambling. Just like Las Vegas a programme of shows and events runs throughout the year. Genting Highlands also has 4 indoor theme parks (Snow World, Genting Bowl, Skytropolis Funland and Video Games Park). The largest of these is Skytropolis Funland which is spread out over 37,000 square metres and features more than 20 rides.
One of the ways Genting Highlands differs from Las Vegas, however, is that it has cultural attractions and activities related to the outstanding natural beauty of the area. In particular Chin Swee Caves Temple, which is hill top Taoist temple, Awana Horse Ranch, which offers horse riding, and Genting Strawberry Leisure Farm, which is open to the public.
