Red Garden Food Paradise is a popular food court in the centre of historic George Town in Penang near the popular Chulia Street area and a short stroll away from Armenia Street. This a food court with a difference and its a great place to come and try the wide range of excellent food that is on offer in Penang and be entertained at the same time.

What is different about Red Garden Food Paradise is firstly, that they sell alcohol which they do not at most normal food stalls in the street in Malaysia on account of its being a Muslim country. Secondly, there is a central stage inside the food court where professional, and sometimes not so professional, singers perform.
About Red Garden Food Paradise
Red Garden Food Paradise opened in 2007 with the intention of encouraging tourism in Penang. In practice the Red Garden Food Paradise has proved more popular with local people than it has done with foreign tourists, although every night you will see a few adventurous foreign visitors in the know who come to be entertained and bemused, often in equal measure.

This is a late night venue. It opens in the afternoon, although doesn’t really get going until after 8 pm when the large tables become filled with often equally large groups of Chinese-Malay visitors who eat and drink with fervour well past midnight. The Red Garden Food Paradise is a place with a great atmosphere and taken as a whole the experience is very entertaining, although the entertainers on stage may not suit the musical tastes of European visitors – think Chinese ballads, Country and Western and Asian pop music, with some girls in short skirts thrown in for good measure.
Food at Red Garden Food Paradise
There are lots of different types of food to eat at Red Garden Food Paradise. Its food court with lots of independent food stalls operating out of the area. The way it works is that you find your yourself a table and go and order dishes from each vendor separately giving the number of your table. When the food is cooked it is brought to your table.

Most of the food is very cheap – 5 to 10 MYR a plate. The seafood and the Chinese dishes from the large Traditional Curry Kitchen near the car park entrance can be more expensive and are often intended to be dishes to share or eaten as a celebration. The more expensive dishes tend to be the one eaten by the locals, with tourists often opting for the cheaper foods.

You will find a very wide range of different food style here. There is Malaysian food, Chinese and Indian style dishes and also food from Japan, Indonesia, Pizza, and Thai style pizzas. Everyone can find something they like to eat at Red Garden Food Paradise and this makes this an excellent place for families as everyone can order something to their tastes.

There are a few dishes there we recommend. The satay chicken wings are good, as are the Indian curries, fried dumplings, and the Penang style Char Kuey Teow, a noodle dish for which Penang is reputed to make the best version of in Malaysia.
