Travel to Koh Samui, Phangan and Tao
The main reason most foreign visitors come to Surat Thani is for onward travel connections. Ferry services to the islands of Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao depart from Surat Thani province. The majority of these ferry services to the islands depart from Donsak which is located 60 km away from Surat Thani City. All the ferry operators, as well as private travel companies such as Phantip Travel and Phangan Tour 2000, provide joint bus and ferry services to Koh Phangan, Koh Tao and Koh Samui. The three pick up points for these services are Surat Thani Airport, Surat Thani Train Station and various locations in the centre of Surat Thani City.

The Lomprayah High Speed Ferry Company uses a pier which is much closer to Surat Thani City (8 km) and passengers using this service get to avoid the 90 minute bus journey to travel to a pier in Donsak to board another ferry service. The only disadvantage of travelling with the Lomprayah High Speed Ferry services is that the journey to Koh Samui or Koh Phangan costs about twice as much as travelling via Donsak on the large car ferry services operated by Seatran Ferry and Raja Ferry.
