Kuah Jetty is the main passenger ferry port in Langkawi, with the cheapest commuter services to destinations in mainland Malaysia and in Thailand.

About Kuah Jetty
Kuah Jetty is located some distance from the beach resorts and major attractions in Langkawi. Kuah, which is near to Kuah Jetty, is the major town on Langkawi but has little of interest for visitors and holiday makers arriving into Kuah Jetty will want to hire a car or take a taxi to another part of the island on arrival. There are plenty of taxis waiting outside the ferry terminal. As you exit the terminal building at Kuah Jetty you come to a medium sized shopping centre which has toilets, money exchange, shops and several restaurants. If you need to stay for a night near Kuah Jetty to catch a connecting ferry then the shopping centre by Kuah Jetty is a good place to go for a meal and buy anything you might need.

From Kuah Jetty there are very frequent ferry services to Kuala Perlis and Kuala Kudah on the Malay mainland from 07:00 to 19:00 every day. You can simply turn up and buy tickets for these services at Kuah Jetty before you travel. There are also less frequent services to Penang, and Satun and Koh Lipe in Thailand, which you should consider booking in advance if you are travelling on a fixed schedule.

Facilities at Kuah Jetty
The terminal building at Kuah Jetty has very few facilities except for a small waiting area.

If you need to buy anything then use the shopping centre outside the entrance to Kuah Jetty:
- Toilets on the left hand side as you exit the ferry terminal.
- A money exchange booth is located by the toilets.
- There is inexpensive Indian food restaurant on the far right hand side of the shopping centre as you exit the ferry terminal.
- Opposite the entrance to the shopping centre is a large branch of 7-Eleven.

The ticket offices at Kuah Jetty are at the rear of the building opposite to the entrance to the shopping centre facing the large car park.

The ticket offices open every day from 07:00 until 17:00. Each different ferry route has its own ticket window, which is easy to identify as they have signs in both Malay and English.
Ferry to to Penang
By ferry it takes 3 hours to travel Kuah Jetty to Penang. The arrival point in Penang is Sweetenham Pier in George Town which is easy walking distance from the popular Old Town area of George Town.

Ferry to to Koh Lipe (Thailand)
The journey by ferry from Kuah Jetty to Koh Lipe takes 1 hour 30 minutes. The arrival point in Koh Lipe is the floating pier moored off Pattaya Beach, and passengers are required to pay 50 THB for a local boat transfer to a pier on the island itself.

Ferry to to Satun (Thailand)
By ferry the journey from Kuah Jetty to Satun takes 1 hour 30 minutes. The pier you arrive at in Thailand is several kilometres from Satun town, from where you can take a minivan to Hat Yai Bus Station which is the major transport land transport hub for the region.
